The first husband, Red Upshaw, was a rough alcoholic ne’er-do-well; the second husband, John Marsh, a phlegmatic Mama’s boy who seems to have had some features in common with the plodding “old-maidish” Frank Kennedy character who is Scarlett O’Hara’s second husband.

  1. 1st Grade Music Programs. One for each grade level would be a LOT, I think! In my career, in one district I did only 1 all-school program, plus a few chorus concerts.
  2. First grade students are taking part in an educational program which is part of the Savannah Music Festival. Students learn about different genres of music and attend two interactive concerts during the year. Find out more about the program and listen to songs students are learning by clicking on the link below.

Klee Castles

Three 45-minute sessions
Students learn how to use simple lines and shapes to build an interesting image, and then learn how warm and cool color relationships can make their drawings really shine. For the first session, we view a gallery of Paul Klee's artwork on Google Art Project, and begin a pencil drawing. Students are shown the steps for making a castle or town, but are free to choose their own subject if they wish. Pencil drawings are then traced with black permanent markers to make the lines and shapes more bold. We read part of A Book About Color, and discuss the relationships between warm and cool colors. Students color the foreground with warm colors and the background with cool colors.
Learning Objectives
Art History - Students learn about the work of Paul Klee.
Aesthetics - Students learn about warm/cool color relations, and see how repetition of simple lines and shapes can create interesting images.
Art Creation - Students use stencils of geometric shapes as 'building blocks' to create their own pictures of castles, towns, etc., and color them with markers.
Art Critique - Students show their drawings to each other, and compare/contrast them to Paul Klee's paintings.
